Comedian Basketmouth recently had a humorous yet culturally significant moment during a visit to Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, where students playfully insisted he observe a traditional Yoruba custom.
Before stepping on stage, the students began chanting “Dobale! Dobale!” — urging him to prostrate as a sign of respect. Initially taken aback, Basketmouth responded jokingly, “Elder go prostrate for small children?” drawing laughter from the crowd.
However, in good spirits and with a smile, he eventually obliged, saying, “When in Rome, behave like Romans.” His gesture was met with loud cheers and applause from the students, who appreciated his respect for their tradition.
The moment has since gone viral, with many praising Basketmouth for his humility, sense of humor, and willingness to embrace cultural values.
