Federal Government To Build Bamboo Houses Nationwide For Low and Middle-Income Nigerians

The Federal Government has announced plans to construct bamboo houses across Nigeria as part of efforts to provide affordable housing for low and medium-income earners.

The initiative was revealed on Wednesday in Abuja by Esuabana Asanye, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, during a Capacity Building Workshop on the Use of Bamboo for Climate-Smart Housing.

Speaking through the Director of Environmental Science and Technology, Benadette Oguche, Asanye said the bamboo housing project aims to tackle Nigeria’s housing deficit while promoting sustainable development.

He described bamboo as an eco-friendly, affordable, and highly adaptable material suitable for constructing comfortable homes.

Asanye also highlighted bamboo’s wide range of uses in industries such as construction, medicine, and paper production, calling it one of the most versatile resources available.

He commended the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) for its innovative efforts in developing climate-resilient housing solutions and contributing to the fight against climate change.
