The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has refuted claims that it sealed off the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, on Monday.
Earlier, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees and former National Secretary, Ibrahim Tsauri, alleged that police officers prevented BoT members from entering the Wadata Plaza headquarters, where a scheduled meeting was to be held. According to Tsauri, the officers claimed they were acting on “orders from above” and instructed that no meetings should take place within the premises.
However, in a statement released by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the command described the reports as “false, misleading, and not reflective of the true situation on ground.”
“The FCT Police Command is aware of the reports circulating online and in the media, suggesting that police sealed off the PDP secretariat. We categorically state that this is untrue,” Adeh said.
She explained that officers were merely deployed to the area to ensure peace and order, which falls under the police’s constitutional duty to protect public safety.
“At no point did the police seal off the secretariat,” she added.
The FCT Commissioner of Police urged media outlets to confirm sensitive information with the command’s public relations office before publication to avoid the spread of misinformation.
