Wike Leads Fayose, Ortom, Ikpeazu To Tinubu In Fresh Political Alignment Talks

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Saturday led three former governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The delegation included Wike’s political allies and members of the defunct G5 group—Ayodele Fayose (Ekiti), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia)—who had fallen out with the PDP leadership ahead of the 2023 elections.

While details of the closed-door meeting were not made public, it is widely seen as part of ongoing political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike and the G5 were instrumental in opposing the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, insisting the ticket should have gone to the South. Their revolt against the party culminated in tacit support for Tinubu, then candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Following Tinubu’s victory, Wike was appointed as Minister of the FCT, further deepening speculation of his shift toward the APC.
