Chelsea have confirmed the signing of striker Liam Delap from Ipswich Town in a deal worth £30 million.
The 22-year-old, who netted 12 goals in the Premier League last season, joins the Blues after triggering a relegation release clause in his contract. Delap turned down offers from Manchester United, Newcastle, and Everton to make the switch to Stamford Bridge.
His decision was heavily influenced by Chelsea’s return to the Champions League and the chance to reunite with head coach Enzo Maresca, having previously worked with him at Manchester City.
Delap’s arrival is expected to boost Chelsea’s attacking options ahead of a packed campaign, which includes their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States next month.
