Tinubu Orders Immediate Employment of 200 NYSC Honourees, Awards ₦250,000 and Scholarships

President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate employment of 200 outstanding National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members into the federal civil service.
Each awardee will receive ₦250,000 and a scholarship to pursue a postgraduate degree at any Nigerian university. The president, represented by Minister of State for Labour and Employment Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, made the announcement during the combined NYSC President’s Honours Award ceremony (2020–2023) in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said the recognition was based on the honourees’ “discipline, commitment, selflessness, teamwork, patriotism, and integrity.”
Tinubu also ordered the employment of 10 physically challenged ex-corps members who sustained injuries during their service.
“We will never forget their sacrifice,” he added.
The president reiterated his administration’s focus on empowering youth through education, skills development, and job creation.
“To put our youth at the centre of the economy, we have developed several programmes covering education, technology, and sustainability,” he said.
Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, praised Tinubu’s commitment to young Nigerians and noted the recent increase in NYSC allowances from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000.
“This shows we value the vital role youth play in building the nation,” he stated.
NYSC Director-General, Olakunle Nafiu, said the awardees were chosen after a thorough screening process that evaluated their service, community impact, and civic contributions.
He also honoured 10 ex-corps members injured during service through the Hope Alive Programme and paid tribute to four who died in active service.
“In 2023, we deployed 6,340 medical personnel, including 2,319 doctors, to expand access to healthcare in rural communities,” Nafiu revealed.
He added that over four million Nigerians have benefited from NYSC’s rural health outreach, while the scheme’s entrepreneurship programme trains over 250,000 corps members annually.
“The NYSC is not just a legacy institution — it’s a living engine of national development,” he said.
