Senate Committee Demands Immediate Enforcement of 4% FOB Charge for Customs

Chairman of the National Assembly Joint Committee on Customs and Tariffs, Senator Isah Jibrin, has demanded the immediate implementation of the 4 per cent Free-On-Board (FOB) charge as mandated by law.
Speaking on Monday during a meeting with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, Senator Jibrin expressed concern over the continued delay in applying the provision.
“Do we subject something that has been passed into law to further debate or defense?” he asked. “The 4 per cent be implemented immediately because it is law.”
Following his remarks, the committee put the matter to a voice vote, and lawmakers unanimously supported the immediate enforcement of the FOB charge, stressing that the law must be upheld without delay.
In addition, the committee called on the Finance Minister to fast-track the release and application of funds earmarked for Customs modernization, particularly the ₦50 billion initiative still pending approval by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
