NLC Gives FG 7-Day Ultimatum, Threatens Strike Over Diverted Funds

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to refund allegedly diverted workers’ funds from the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) and to immediately constitute the Governing Board of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM).
The union warned that failure to meet these demands would trigger a nationwide strike.
This resolution was contained in a communiqué released after the NLC Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, in Abuja. The meeting, presided over by NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero, reviewed issues affecting Nigerian workers, the trade union movement, and the state of the nation.
The NLC accused the government of neglecting its duty to safeguard workers’ entitlements and vowed to cripple economic activities across the country if the ultimatum expires without decisive action.
