Bayer Leverkusen Sack Ten Hag After Just Two Bundesliga Games

Bayer Leverkusen have dismissed Erik ten Hag as head coach after only two Bundesliga matches, following a turbulent start to the 2025–26 season.
The decision came after a 3–3 draw against 10-man Werder Bremen, in which Leverkusen squandered a 3–1 lead, exposing problems with team discipline and leadership. The team had also suffered a 2–1 home defeat to Hoffenheim earlier in the campaign.
Ten Hag, who replaced Xabi Alonso in May on a contract through 2027, had begun his tenure with a 4–0 DFB-Pokal victory over SG Sonnenhof Großaspach. However, inconsistent league performances led to his rapid dismissal.
Following his exit, assistant coach Rogier Meijer will temporarily oversee training duties until a permanent replacement is appointed.
Ten Hag’s sacking adds to a recent wave of managerial changes involving former Manchester United managers, including José Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjær, highlighting the pressures facing coaches in Europe’s top leagues.
