President Tinubu Returns to Abuja After Two-Nation Visits to Japan and Brazil

President Bola Tinubu has returned to the country after a two-nation visit to Japan and Brazil, with a stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. 

His aircraft landed at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 1:20 a.m. on Thursday, where he was received by top government officials and senior aides.

In Japan, the President attended the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama from August 20 to 22. The summit, which had as its theme “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” focused on Africa’s economic transformation, innovation, and sustainable growth.

President Tinubu also held bilateral meetings with Japanese leaders and engaged business executives, during which Japanese firms expressed fresh commitments in areas such as technology transfer, renewable energy, power, infrastructure, and manufacturing.

From Japan, President Tinubu proceeded to Brazil on a state visit at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. In Brasília, the two leaders discussed ways to deepen trade and cultural ties between Nigeria and Brazil.

The visit produced significant outcomes, including renewed discussions on the return of Petrobras to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, new cooperation frameworks in aviation, trade, energy and finance, and an agreement paving the way for a direct flight route between Lagos and São Paulo. 

The President also addressed a business forum where he encouraged Brazilian investors to take advantage of Nigeria’s economic reforms and large consumer market.

With his return to Abuja early Thursday morning, President Tinubu is expected to resume official duties immediately, including scheduled consultations with cabinet members and senior advisers.
